Yes, you can pay directly for your treatment. A large number of patients especially those who are seeking a second opinion do fund their own treatment. The hospital customer services team will be able to tell you about the various way of paying.
My fee for an initial consultation is £180 and for every follow up appointment I charge £120. I accept cash, cheques, and at some practice locations card payments are acceptable as well.
I am recognized by all the major medical insurance companies. The following are provider reference numbers to help you in calling the insurance company. WPA: 920082194 BUPA: Simply Health: AXA: Please note that there are certain policies that do not cover all aspects of your treatment and it may be worth calling your insurance company to obtain a ‘pre-authorization’.
My treatment fee has not changed in the last seven years and is generally covered in full by most insurance companies. My fee is very similar to the published WPA fee schedule.
All the hospitals (private and NHS) where I work are recognized by most insurance companies for private treatment. If for some reason you would like to be treated privately in an NHS hospital please contact my secretary who will arrange the Private patient wing of the NHS hospital. All my anesthetist colleagues are fully recognized by insurance companies.
My secretary and the Pre-authorization team at the hospital will be very happy to help you with a lot of the details that the insurance companies want to know. The team at the hospital can talk to the insurance company to facilitate the process.
Most of the follow ups appointments are paid by the insurance companies. I would advice you to check with the insurance company as this may vary with the type of policy that you have. At an average there are two to three follow up appointments required for simple procedures while with some of the more complex procedures a long term yearly follow up may be necessary. Sometimes, especially in the case of joint replacement surgery, postal assessment questionnaires are sent out to track your progress. There is no charge for this postal follow up.
The easiest way of making an appointment is to ring the appointment line at the hospital you would like to be seen at. The clinic timings and the telephone number for appointments are in the left hand margin. Another way of fixing an appointment is to either ring my assistant on 077 66 300 300 or email my secretary at [javascript protected email address]
It is always preferable to have a referral letter from you GP who will be kept informed about your treatment. If you are paying for your own treatment, a referral is not essential. Most insurance companies will require a referral from a GP in order to fund your treatment.
There are a number of regular clinics in different hospitals. I will try to see you as quickly as possible (within a week) and at your convenience. If you would like a home visit from any of my team please ring my assistant on 077 66 300 300.
I try my best to keep to your appointment time. It is very rare that the patients have to wait more than 20 minutes to be seen. The consultation varies according to your need. Most of the time a new patient consultation is for about 30 minutes. If investigations like X-rays or MRI are to be undertaken you may have to wait a little longer.
I do treat children. Most of my clinics and the hospitals that I work at are equipped with paediatric facilities with most types of treatment. To be doubly sure and to check the availability of this service, please enquire when making your appointment at the hospital.
It is always good to bring your medication, reports of any investigation or records of any treatment that you have had. If you have been treated elsewhere for the same or similar condition please tell my secretary. We will try to obtain the relevant information prior to seeing you.
I believe in providing a personalised one to one service. At all stages of your surgical treatment you will directly under my care. All your consultations and the surgical management will be undertaken by myself.
I believe in providing a personalised one to one service. At all stages of your surgical treatment you will directly under my care. During your admission you will be seen by resident doctors, physiotherapist, nurses and other allied medical staff as well.
This depends on the type of surgery that you are having. Please see the patient information section of this website.
The number of further consultations you need will depend on the operation you have had and how closely you progress needs to be monitored. In general I aim to continue to see you until you have fully recovered from any procedure.
In certain cases I send out postal assessment questionnaire to track your progress over a long time. For some rare operations I like to continue follow up in the long term to help inform future patients about expected outcomes.
I take all aspects of patient safety very seriously. All patients due to have surgery undergo a medical (pre-operative assessment). If your medical condition is significant I will arrange an appointment with my physician, and anaesthetic colleagues. Surgery will only be undertaken if it is safe to do so.
I try my best to provide as complete a service as possible. Although the secretary’s contact telephone and Email is manned continuously, I am unable to provide 24/7 cover.
If you have any urgent queries you should call my secretary or the hospital initially. I will try my best to see you. If I am unable to organise a review, a safe alternative plan will be made.
If the emergency is so serious that you have had to attend A/E please ask the treating clinician to call me on my mobile via the hospital switchboard.
